Tonight I’m writing from my hotel room in Makati, Manila – boy is security here tight. Once you enter hotel compounds, there is a security check point (like how security is usually checked in major hotels in KL) via a boot search. Then after you get to the main entrance of the hotel, there are sniffer dogs (very cute black labradors with shiny coats – Ronnie couldnt resist – he patted one of them and the dog docilely enjoyed it, I reckon) who sniff at your luggage bags (I guess for explosives etc) AND you get your bags scanned with some device BEFORE you can enter the hotel.
Once in the hotel, you get greeted by a huge barrage of friendly uniformed staff (possibly placed there to ‘make up’ for the many security checks before you head to check in!) who then lead you to Reception.
While I am here tonight, I was just in Leonardo’s Restaurant (Jalan Bangkung, Bangsar) LAST night, having a wonderfully enjoyable time with my old mates from high school for a 2nd round “hens” party
We marvelled at the way none of our faces changed throughout the years. When I say this, we dont really talk about the fine lines appearing around our eyes (which I quickly point out during dinner) but more the actual look of the face. While hairstyles and our fashion choices have evolved over the years, our faces stubbornly remain as it looked 12 years ago.
It was a lovely night having yummy pork knuckle, more pork and delicious pasta with some hybrid Cab Sav + Merlot Aussie wine, it was a cosy gathering. We were quick to realise that our conversation revolved so much around marriage and motherhood. Why the inverted commas for “HENS” party? TWO out of the 7 of us were getting married this year, while 1 our of 7 are pregnant (basking in her pregnancy glow), 5 out of 7 were married and 1 out of 7 has a cute 15 month old baby boy. So the inverted commas were really because one of us were 6 mths pregnant but also because it was such a chill night, followed by literally tea and hot choc at La Bodega BSC not because we are an aging bunch of grannies. HAHA.
As we finished tea at 1am and I had gone to pee for the 5th time in the night (more times than the pregnant lady!) we said our goodbyes and finished with…”We really should do this more often”. Lets wait and see.
